Lieber Mensch, [DE]

Letter to a refugee [EN]
Dearest you, you glorious human you,
I don’t know if you’re a man or a woman. I have no idea how old you are nor do I know what God, if any, you pray to. I haven’t the faintest idea what your political orientation is. There are, however, a few things I do know about you. I know, for example, what drove you out of your home and your country and I understand that look on your face.
These things I know, not because of personal experience, for I live in the safety and comfort of a Europe where war on the streets is a thing of the past and I can only imagine what horrors you’ve gone through during the last weeks, months and years of your life.
I sincerely hope that by the time you read this that you are safe. I hope that you feel safe. Should you stumble upon the racist, hurtful and stupid rantings of a few local idiots – do not be afraid, for they are only a few and they do not know nor understand your story and they do not know your face.
I want to welcome you to here – whether here may be. You’ve made it, well done – how amazing and strong you’ve been and become. I just wanted to tell you that I, at least, believe in a world where we can live peacefully together in a community that is safe and happy, and that I’ll always be here for you should you need my help.
You’ll find me in every smiling face on the street and in every hand held out so that it can hold yours. I’m a mother, father and a I’m a child. I’m a drifter. I’m a human being. I wanted to tell you that it’s people like me that surround you and not those who are against you so call out to me when you feel scared and alone and need somebody to lean on.
I’m just a simple person. But I’m someone who was lucky enough to be born here in Europe and I want to share that good fortune with you because it doesn’t belong to me alone. We are one. We are human. Welcome.

Querido humano:

Pozovi me u vrijeme samoće, straha i kad poželiš podršku.
